Advent starts November 30 and runs through the morning of December 24. It is the season in which Christians prepare for the coming of Christ - in the celebration of his birth at Christmas and in the anticipation of his return to renew humanity and all creation. During this time we wait with hope and look for God's justice and peace.
Save the Date! Friday, December 5 at 7 pm
for a performance of
The Other Wise Man.
Tickets are $10 /$5 for kids age 12 and under. All tickets at the door.
This is an Advent and Christmas tale in which a fourth Wise Man goes in search of the Christ Child, but at every turn encounters people in great need. It's a story for adults that is also good for kids. Written by Henry Van Dyke in the 1920s, it has been adapted for the stage by William Ward, specifically for All Saints’. This costumed reading by professional actors will take place in the Church. Proceeds will benefit North Porch, which provides emergency supplies to babies and toddlers. We’ll also be collecting jars of baby food for all ages: fruit, veggies and first foods, at the door.
St. Nicholas Sunday, December 7 at the 10 am service. Our high school youth will present a skit about St. Nicholas to help us focus on Advent and the real meaning of gift-giving as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ. We're also hoping for a visit from this Advent saint!
Festive Advent Evensong
Sunday, December 7 at 4 pm
in celebration of the 20th Ordination Anniversary of our rector
the Rev, Victoria Geer McGrath.
Scripture readings, canticles by Stanford, anthem by Bruckner, and our Director of Music Alison Siener Brown has written a new hymn for the occasion. A Pot-Luck reception will follow. Hope you can join us!
Nativity Pageant, Sunday, December 21 at 10 am. Our annual Sunday School presentation in story, song and costume of God's coming into human life - angels, shepherds, Magi, birds & animals, Mary & Joseph. Come and prepare your heart for Christmas.
Upcoming Outreach Opportunities
Adopt-a-Family – this is our annual program to provide new clothing and household items to a struggling family, as identified by Union County Social Services. There is a board in the Narthex with envelopes containing the needed items. Please take one and return the gifts wrapped and labeled by 12/15. Thank you for helping make this family’s Christmas a little happier.
Ditty Bags – every December we collect travel size toiletries, playing cards, cosmetics, jewelry trinkets, small note pads, etc. to go to the residents of Morris View, the county nursing home. Contributions may be left in the marked box in the Narthex.
Knitting for Seafarers – All Saints’ donated 22 knitted items in our last shipment to Seaman’s Church Institute for their Christmas at Sea program! We are always looking for knitters for this ministry. We supply you with directions and yarn, and then you work on the project on your own time. Your gift will help keep a seafarer warm this winter.
