Dear Friends in Christ,
Starting today I am on vacation until August 28. The announcements in this e-letter will be for the whole month, although our parish administrator Susie Harris will update the Sunday bulletin inserts as necessary. The service schedule for the month will be:
Neil Davis’ funeral was Wednesday, August 1st. As his wife Charlotte wanted, it was a very small graveside service with her children and grandchildren at the Davis family cemetery in Atlantic Highlands. Charlotte is grateful for all of the parish’s prayers and kind words. Please continue to uphold the Davis family in your prayers.

The hearing will be on Tuesday, August 14 at 8 pm in the court room of Long Hill Town Hall. Your prayers for this presentation will be greatly appreciated. If anyone can come and show support by sitting in the audience, we’d love to have you. If all goes well on the 14th then we can get the necessary permits to begin the work. If you have any questions, please speak to Roger Kosempel, Tom Day or me (Note ~ I will be at this hearing on the 14th).

J2A is Coming – our high school group. We’ll meet twice a month, usually after coffee hour on Sundays, starting on September 9. Gary Stapperfenne and Hilary Morse will be assisting with this ministry. In addition to class/discussion time, we’re also planning some trips, outings, service projects, etc. Look for more info to come.
Sunday School Classes start the Fall program on September 9 at 10 am. The classes will meet in the following rooms: PreK-Grade 1 (Barbara Erday and Suzanne Kosempel, teachers) - Parish House Lower Room; Grade 2-5 (Jackie Sullivan and Susan Dudzinski, teachers) – Church Undercroft Large Classroom; Rite-13/Grades 6-8 (Joyce Kulzer, teacher) – Rath House Living Room; J2A/High School (Mother Vicki, Gary Stapperfenne, Hilary Morse, adult advisors) – Parish House Lower Level after coffee hour; Infants- 3 years (Natalie Harris and Greer Hennessy, caregivers) – Nursery in Church Undercroft. Welcome Sunday Hot Dog Picnic is Sunday, September 9 at 11:15 am. This is a fun tradition at All Saints’ to say “Welcome Home” to one another after the summer, and to anyone new to the parish. We’ll provide hot dogs, rolls, and cold drinks. Please bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share. Sign up on the sheet in the Narthex. We’ll also need some people to set up and clean up, and some intrepid hot dog grillers – so let us know if you can help with any of those things! The Picnic takes place at Church, after the 10 am service. Hope to see you there!
Calling All Singers! If you like to sing, enjoy spending time with a fun group of people, and want to serve God through music (even if you don’t think you can read music), then there is a spot for you in our choirs! Junior Choir, for kids in Grade 3 and up, rehearses Thursdays at 5 pm. Adult Choir rehearses on Thursday at 7:30 pm. Rehearsals start on September 6 in the choir room (in the Undercroft/lower level of the Church). Both groups are affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music (RSCMA) and are an enjoyable way to make new friends, learn new skills and serve God and the church community through music ministry. Choir Questions? Speak to Dr. Jody.
Women's Book Group – is a relaxed group, open to all women of the parish. We have lively discussions of books that we read, and the group chooses the selection each month. We will reconvene on Wednesday, September 19 at 7:30 pm in the Rath House. The book for discussion is “Little Bee” by Chris Cleave. Happy summer reading!
Adult Christian Education (aka Wonderful Wednesdays) will start on September 12. We’ll have two times for Bible Study this fall (both on Wednesdays): Mornings @ 10:15 am in the Narthex; and Evenings (2nd & 4th weeks) @ 7:45 pm in the Rath House Living Room. The Evening group will read and discuss the first eleven chapters of Genesis; the Morning topic has not yet been decided. No prior experience of the Bible is needed; every question is a good one! We’ll even supply you with a Bible, or you can bring your own. This is a great way to grow and stretch your faith, and connect with others as we all learn more about loving God, following Jesus and serving God’s world.
We Need Acolytes to serve at the altar during 10 am Sunday and special feast day services (carrying the cross and torches in the procession, assisting the priest in setting up the altar for Communion, etc.); acolytes serve once a month (less often if we have a bigger pool); kids in Grade 7 and older can serve as acolytes – so can interested adults! You’ll get training before you start. If you are interested in helping with this ministry, speak to Janice Lettieri.
All God’s Children at All Saints’ Starting in October - All God’s Children is a non-denominational Christian worship service designed to appeal to children of any age, and especially appropriate for children with autism, PDD-NOS, ADHD, ADD, Down’s Syndrome or any other developmental/physical challenges. It is 30 minutes long, with optional Communion. The service was designed by a parent of two autistic kids at Christ Episcopal Church in Budd Lake (to see a short video about it, click here: http://youtu.be/CiWDqZuzocQ. We’ll be offering an All God’s Children (AGC) service monthly on the third Sunday of every month, at 12 noon, starting on October 21. This will be not just for parish families, but for anyone in the wider community. If you know a family who might be interested in this time for worship and fellowship, please let them know about it. We’ll be making the information available to some of the schools and support groups in the area. There will also be opportunities for high school students (and adults) to volunteer – we’ll need some extra hands! If you want to know more or would like to get involved, speak to Kathy Hunt or Mother Vicki+. And please keep this ministry in your prayers. Thanks!
Thanks to everyone who came out to Wednesday night Picnic & Praise through July. It was successful, and a nice change to worship outdoors. Look for it again next summer.
Please Remember Your Pledge during the Summer. If you are traveling or away on the weekends you can always put your pledge check/donation check in the mail or drop it by the parish office. The parish expenses continue during the summer, and we count on your support. Thank you very much!
Your Summer Food Donations have been generous and very much needed. Thank you! And thank you to our two new food pantry drivers Sean Ragiel and Suzanne Kosempel; along with Sue Traub and Louis Berry they will help to make sure your donations are delivered to the people who need them in Dover.
Two of our Choristers, Amelia Stapperfenne and Audrey Godwin, had a wonderful week at the RSCMA Kings College Course (aka choir camp) last week. Thanks to everyone who helped with the fundraising to make this possible. It was an inspiring seven days, full of music, fun and hard work – and the two Sunday services at the end were outstanding! Proud to have our kids take part.
Save the Date October 13 for the Margin Retreat with Dr. Richard Swenson at the Convent of St. John Baptist in Mendham. Registration details to appear on our website soon.
Stewardship ~ is everything that we do after we say “I believe.”

In this season of warm days and long daylight,
Of cicadas, fireflies and birds singing at first light,
Of flowers bursting with color and grass so full and green,
We are grateful to be alive.
Give us the wisdom to pause from our hectic routines and enjoy
the simple things of this time of year...
To take off shoes and walk barefoot in sand or grass,
To sit outside in the cool of the evening and listen to the
symphony of nature.
To eat watermelon and spit out the seeds,
To swim in pools and oceans,
To play with children and like children.
Let us live easily for a time,
Putting away watches and looking away from clocks,
ignoring all the things that need to be fixed, moved or cleaned.
Let us lose ourselves in the beauty and bounty of
the earth you created.
May this be a time of rest, refreshment and renewal.
And, as we pause to play and rest, let us not forget to enjoy
time with you, Lord.
May we be calm enough and quiet enough to perceive your presence.
Let us not fill all our time with endless activity.
Let us not fill all our silences with noise.
Let us simply be for a while. ~ Ted Loder
