MUSIC MINISTRY
Thank you to everyone who helped with our concert last Sunday to benefit the Window Restoration Fund – especially to Alison and our choirs! It was a wonderful event with great music, many friends and visitors, and delicious food at the reception. We raised $8,222 to start our Window Restoration Fund!

All Saints’ has been given a wonderful gift – the donation of a newly re-condintioned Bechstein baby grand piano for our choir room! It is a donation from our piano technician David Thomson of Thomson Piano Works in Chatham. Not only will this gift support our choir rehearsals and Alison’s private and group music classes, but it allows the spinet piano form the choir room to be moved over to the Parish Hall for use there. Parishioners are always invited to come to the choir room  in the Undercroft and take a look. Thank you, David, for this wonderful and generous gift!

PRAYER & A PARTY

CHRISTIAN PRACTICES
At this end of the Season after Pentecost the Gospel reading is always the Transfiguration of Jesus. One of the themes of Transfiguration is worship, when Peter, James, and John see God’s glory in Jesus for the first time, and worship him.

The priest and poet George Herbert (1593-1633), whose day in the liturgical calendar is Feb. 27, often gave voice to the worship of God out of very human and personal circumstances – each and every day. The following poem is the text of our hymn #382.

King of glory, King of peace,
I will love Thee;
and that love may never cease,
I will move Thee.
Thou hast granted my request,
Thou hast heard me;
Thou didst note my working breast,
Thou hast spared me.

Wherefore with my utmost art
I will sing Thee;
and the cream of all my heart,
I will bring Thee.
Though my sins against me cried,
Thou didst clear me;
and alone, when they replied,
Thou didst hear me.

Seven whole days, not one in seven,
I will praise Thee;
in my heart, though not in heaven,
I can raise Thee.
Small it is, in this poor sort
to enroll Thee;
e'en eternity's too short
to extol Thee.

It details the needed work on the altar window and rhe large window behind the organ. The photo display in the Narthex will give you some of the highlights. The report also gives an overveiw of the conditions of the smaller side windows. The assesment was made by Brianne Kozlowski of Liberty Stained Glass in Freehold. LSG will not do the work, but has made recommendations about reputable contractors in New Jersey. The Vestry is grateful for Brianne’s guidance and expertise as we launch out into what will be a multi-year effort for fund-raising and restoration.

CHRISTIAN PRACTICES
TURN - The practice of TURNING is, of course, about repentence; about turning to Christ for forgiveness and a fresh start. But turning is also be about facing God when we finally realize that we are running on empty and we need God’s help to even take the next step in life.

Michael Gerson, the Washington Post columnist and former speech writer for President George W. Bush, preached last Sunday at Washington National Cathedral about such a turn. Mr. Gerson struggles with depression, and was recently hospitalized for his condition. He turned for help to God and to people who care about him. He speaks very movingly of his Christian faith – not in spite of his depression, but in the midst of it: “At the end of all our striving and longing we find, not a force, but a face. All language about God is metaphorical. But the metaphor became flesh and dwelt among us.”

On Tuesday night Mr. Gerson was interviewed on PBS Newshour about his sermon. This link will take you to the Newshour website which contains a video of the twelve-minute sermon, a print version of it, and a video of his interview with Judy Woodruff. The sermon is full of wisdom, compassion, and faith. As it happens, Mr. Gerson is an Episcopalian.
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/read-michael-gersons-sermon-sharing-his-struggle-with-depression

I hope that you will be helped in your own turning to God in times of stress and need by these reflections.
Blessings, Vicki+

CHRISTIAN PRACTICES
In remembrance of Presidents’ Day on Monday, pray for our elected leaders.
(Prayer for Sound Government, Book of Common Prayer, page 821)

O Lord our Governor, bless the leaders of our land, that we
may be a people at peace among ourselves and a blessing to
other nations of the earth.
Lord, keep this nation under your care.

To the President and members of the Cabinet, to Governors
of States, Mayors of Cities, and to all in administrative authority,
grant wisdom and grace in the exercise of their duties.
Give grace to your servants, O Lord.

To Senators and Representatives, and those who make our
laws in States, Cities, and Towns, give courage, wisdom, and
foresight to provide for the needs of all our people, and to
fulfill our obligations in the community of nations.
Give grace to your servants, O Lord.

To the Judges and officers of our Courts give understanding
and integrity, that human rights may be safeguarded and justice served.
Give grace to your servants, O Lord.

And finally, teach our people to rely on your strength and to
accept their responsibilities to their fellow citizens, that they
may elect trustworthy leaders and make wise decisions for
the well-being of our society; that we may serve you faithfully
 in our generation and honor your holy Name.
For yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as
head above all. Amen.

CHRISTIAN PRACTICES
Community – an important part of Christian faith is the understanding that we are all part of the Body of Christ. That means that no one believer is isolated or cut off from others. That is true on a spiritual level, but it is also true on a human, practical level. As we gather with our brothers and sisters in Christ in church, at coffee hour, in small groups or ministry teams, or at fellowship events, we offer strength and support to one another, as well as different perspectives and wisdom; we learn from each other. Participating in Christian community is an important part of our growth as disciples of Jesus, and of our witness to the world around us.

Blessings, Vicki+
