AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Wednesday Walkabouts: Coming Again in June and July! How well do you know the neighborhoods that All Saints’ serves? No matter how often you drive through a place, you never see it the same way as when you walk it. This summer we’ll have evening Walkabouts in three parish neighborhoods. Each walk will last about 45 minutes, with a meal at a local restaurant afterwards to share fellowship and talk about what we have seen and learned. Details are on the sign-up sheet in the Narthex. You are invited to come to one or all three!
June 20 – Spring Ridge (dinner at Café Figaro)
July 11 – Gillette Station (dinner at Chimney Rock)
July 18 – Warrenville Center (dinner at Ye’s Asian Bistro)

WORSHIP
Choir Sunday, June 10 at 10 am. This is the last regular Sunday for our choirs before the summer break. Thank you to these dedicated folks who serve God and All Saints’ through their leadership of our worship at 10 am!

Hymn Sing - During the summer, in place of an instrumental prelude we’ll have a simple hymn sing – the first verse of some of our favorite hymns, starting next week.  If you have a request, please be ready with the hymn number!

Come join the fun and sing in the All Saints' Summer Choir! Two different opportunities: July 22 & August 19! No experience is needed. Meet in the choir room at 9:15 to learn a simple anthem then help lead worship at 10:00. Please talk to Alison Siener Brown for more information.

Father’s Day – next Sunday at both services we’ll have prayers and carnations to remember and honor our fathers. Please join us for worship.

PARISH LIFE
Summer Refreshments are available after the 10 am service on the Parish House lawn, starting June 17. Please join us for a cool drink and conversation. If you can host a Sunday (iced tea, lemonade, cookies), please sign up on the sheet in the Narthex or speak to John McGrath.

DIOCESAN NEWS
The Rev. Carlye J. Hughes, our new Bishop-elect will be consecrated on September 22, 11 am at NJPAC in Newark. If you are interested in travelling to the service by bus, please speak to Suzanne Kosempel. Please keep Bishop-elect Carlye, and her husband David, and the whole diocese in your prayers as we move together into the future God has in store for us.

Lunch Honoring Bishop Beckwith - In recognition of their 11 years of service to the people of the Diocese of Newark, festivities luncheon the Rt. Rev. Mark M. Beckwith and Marilyn Olson will be held on September 8, 2018 at the Skylands Event & Conference Center in Randolph. The gathering begins at 11:00 am with a short liturgy, followed by the luncheon. The cost to attend is $50 per person. More information will be available from the Diocese later this month.

Diocesan Senior Ministries Lifetime Achievement Awards at Evensong,
Sunday, June 10, 4 pm
at St. Peter’s, Morristown. The recipient for All Saints’ this year is Hugh Wallace. Please come and show Hugh your support and thanks. Congratulations, Hugh!

BUILDINGS & GROUNDS
The Parish Hall Floor will be refinished starting June 10. After Coffee Hour today we need help moving the contents of the room. The floor color will match the stairs in the main entryway, with three coats of polyurethane. The hall floor outside the bathrooms will also be replaced. This project will increase our attractiveness to groups and individuals seeking rentals, as well as general upkeep of the building.

Snow Plowing Overage - A letter was sent to the parish last week informing you of the unexpected expense to our operating costs* that we’ve had due to 20 inches of snow that fell above the amount of our contract with our snow plower. Some of the A.A. groups that meet here have helped us with this bill, so the remaining portion that we need to cover is $4,651.75. If every active parish household contributes $60, we’ll be able to cover this expense. Some can do more, some can do less; but everyone’s contribution is important and welcomed. If you can assist us with making up the snow plowing overage, please make a check out to “All Saints’ Church” and put “Snow 2018” in the memo line. Or you may use the PayPal portal on our website. Thank you! (*Note – the summer buildings & grounds projects are paid for out of Legacy/Capital funds set aside for these purposes, and not out of the annual operating budget).

All Saints' Community Garden is ready and available for planting! Herbs, veggies, flowers - whatever suits your fancy. The garden is located on the back island of the parking lot and has raised beds with a number of plots available. Produce from the garden can be donated to our food ministry for distribution to those in need. Interested? Speak to Jane Hayden.

FUN & FUNDRAISING

We’ll begin accepting rummage August 5, “The First Sunday of Rummage.” Please start setting aside your good, usable, clean rummage – and tell your friends and neighbors Check the poster in the narthex to see how you can help. Questions? Speak to Kimberly Celeste.

CHRISTIAN PRACTICES
Gratitude to our Creator - one of the basic understandings of God in the Bible (both Old and New Testaments) is that God is the Creator of all that is, “visible and invisible.” Christian faith understands that God is not just some clock-maker in the sky who sets up the physical structure, sets it running, and then walks away. That was the Deist mind-set that took hold during the Enlightenment of the 18th century. Christian and Jewish belief is that God is the loving Creator who continues to be intimately involved with creation.
Our gratitude, thanks, and praise to our Creator is an important daily practice; not only for the gift of life we have been given, but for the beauty and goodness that sustains us.
A hymn in our hymnal (#9 in the “Morning” section) expresses this well:
1
Not here for high and holy things we render thanks to thee,
but for the common things of earth, the purple pageantry
of dawning and of dying days, the splendor of the sea,
2
the royal robes of autumn moors, the golden gates of spring,
the velvet of soft summer nights, the silver glistering
of all the million million stars, the silent song they sing,
3
of faith and hope and love undimmed, undying still through death,
the resurrection of the world, what time there comes the breath
of dawn that rustles through the trees, and that clear voice that saith:
4
Awake, awake to love and work! The lark is in the sky,
the fields are wet with diamond dew, the worlds awake to cry
their blessings on the Lord of life, as he goes meekly by.
5
Come, let thy voice be one with theirs, shout with their shout of praise;
see how the giant sun soars up, great lord of years and days!
So let the love of Jesus come and set thy soul ablaze,
6
to give and give, and give again, what God hath given thee;
to spend thyself nor count the cost; to serve right gloriously
the God who gave all worlds that are, and all that are to be.
~ written by Geoffrey Anketel Studdert-Kennedy (1883-1929), Church of England priest and World War I Army chaplain.
