Dear Friends in Christ,

 Here are this week’s announcements:
  • Summer Buildings Chores (Buildings & Grounds)
  • Summer Choir (Worship)
  • Bus to Bishop’s Service (Diocesan News)
  • Vacation Bible Camp Report (Christian Formation)

FUN & FUNDRAISING

Thanks to Ava’s Ice Cream in Basking Ridge for Friday night’s fund raiser. The home-made ice cream was delicious, the setting was relaxing, and the company delightful! 10% of eache purchase by parishioners was donated to All Saints’.

Rummage Sale! We’ll begin accepting rummage August 5, “The First Sunday of Rummage.” The Sale is September 29. What do we take? Good, usable, clean rummage: furniture, housewares, tools, toys, holiday items, yard & garden, art work, kids’ books, small electronics, boutique, office supplies, sporting goods, etc. What don’t we take?  Cribs, large appliances, large sofas, entertainment centers, tube TVs. Tell your friends and neighbors! This sale is our most visible community event, and our largest fund-raiser. Check the poster in the narthex to see how you can help. Questions? Speak to Kimberly Celeste.

CHRISTIAN FORMATION
Wizards & Wonders (Harry Potter) Vacation Bible Camp was a wonderful success! Children and adults learned about their true identity, cooperation, being loved by God, handling temptations, and seeing the Kingdom of God in the midst of ever day life. We also did some cool science experiments, played outdoor and imaginative games, walked the labyrinth, read Bible stories, sang songs, learned from one another, and had fun. Thank you to everyone who came and helped out! The intergenerational evening model worked really well; we all learned from one another. This is certainly something we’ll try again.

Bible Study Wednesdays at 10:15 am in the Rath House will not meet July 4th. Next week, July 11, we’ll read and discuss Galatians chapter 4. Bible study is for everyone, whether you own a Bible or have ever read it, or not! Hope to see you there!

WORSHIP
Come join the fun and sing in the All Saints' Summer Choir! Two different opportunities: July 22 & August 19! No experience is needed. You are welcome whether you sing in choir during the rest of the year or not. Meet in the choir room at 9:15 am to learn the anthem and then help lead worship at 10:00. Please talk to Alison Siener Brown for more information.

PARISH LIFE
Summer Fishing Trip – would you be interested in a day of fishing at the Shore? Steve Kowalik is willing to organize an outing on a boat this summer. Please put your name on the sheet in the Narthex if you would like more information, and Steve will be in touch with you.

Summer Refreshments are available after the 10 am service on the Parish House lawn. Please join us for a cool drink and conversation. If you can host a Sunday (iced tea, lemonade, cookies), please sign up on the sheet in the Narthex or speak to John McGrath.

DIOCESAN NEWS
If you are interested in seeing the consecration of Carlye Hughes as the 11th Bishop of Newark and hearing the Presiding Bishop Curry speak, let Suzanne Kosempel know!  We are thinking about obtaining a bus to take a group from All Saints to the NJPAC on Saturday, 9/22/18 and it would be very helpful to get an idea of how many people are interested.  Please either email Suzanne at skosempel@verizon.net with the name and number of people interested or sign up on the sheet in the Narthex of the Church.

BUILDINGS & GROUNDS
Snow Plowing Overage - Thank you for the generosity of everyone who has made donations to our snow plowing fund. We don’t have a final count yet, but we are very close to our goal. If you can assist us with making up the snow plowing overage, please make a check out to “All Saints’ Church” and put “Snow 2018” in the memo line. Or you may use the PayPal portal on our website. Thank you!

Summer Building Chores - The Parish Hall Floor and the floor outside the bathrooms is finished! The original hard wood under the tile in the hallway was good enough to be repaired and refinished. Some touch-up painting has also been done, which means that our Parish Hall is now in very good shape! Thanks to Tom Day’s hard work, new shelving has gone up in the Parish House furnace room, and it has been cleaned out and re-organized. The bell tower of the Church has been cleaned and power washed, among other chores.
There are other property and buildings projects being worked on this summer. Stay tuned for more information. Thank you to the Vestry for moving these projects along!

AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Wednesday Walkabouts - How well do you know the neighborhoods that All Saints’ serves? No matter how often you drive through a place, you never see it the same way as when you walk it. This summer we’ll have evening Walkabouts in parish neighborhoods at 6:30 pm. Each walk will last about 45 minutes, with a meal at a local restaurant afterwards to share fellowship and talk about what we have seen and learned. Details are on the sign-up sheet in the Narthex.
July 11 – Gillette (meet and then have dinner at Chimney Rock)
July 18 – Warrenville Center (meet at 41 Mountain Boulevard and then dinner at Ye’s Asian Bistro)

Summer Community Program – this year we will once again host LHT’s Little Explorers PreK camp for five weeks. We are pleased to be able to house this good activity for the children of our community!

Act of Loving-Kindness Idea: Cyclists’ Water Station? At Charlie White’s funeral people were asked to do some act of loving-kindness for another person in their day-to-day life. Here’s an idea that we as a parish might be able to do - provide water for bikers who pass the church on the weekends. We could fill a cooler on summer Saturday and Sunday mornings with gallon jugs of water and have a sign to let cyclists know the water is available. It would take about 15 minutes, and volunteers would sign up to cover a day. If this is something you’d be interested in, please let Mother Vicki know. Thanks!

CHRISTIAN PRACTICES
For Our Country
Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. ~ Book of Common Prayer, page 820: first printed in the 1928 BCP

Here are two hymns from our nation’s history:
“Chester”, a hymn of the American Revolution https://youtu.be/LSPEizGsaOw
And “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” with all the original verses, performed by the folk singer Odetta https://youtu.be/4VsE9T4Sr30 .
Blessings, Vicki+
