Dear Friends in Christ,
This is the unofficial start of summer. I hope that you are able to take some time this weekend for relaxation and refreshment whether that is at the shore, on a hike, a trip to the city, or in your own backyard! As we go into the weekend, and into summer, there are two things I would ask of you:
  • First, as this is Memorial Day weekend, find some time to remember, reflect on, and offer thanks to God for all those who gave their lives in our country’s service, and think about how our lives can be lived in a way that honors their effort and sacrifice on behalf of peace in God’s world.
  • Second, as the summer takes you many different places, please remember to pray for All Saints’ Church. We are very good at praying for each other’s needs and support, but it is important to pray for the parish as a whole – for our faithfulness, vitality, and for our work of living and sharing the Gospel. Your prayers add so much. Thank you!
Please see the following announcements:
  •          Youth Sunday - in Worship
  •          Cook Book Project – in Stewardship
  •          Diocesan Senior Ministries Award – in Events
  •          Christian Arts Camp – in Christian Formation

Joining Jesus on the Journey: A River-to-River Pilgrimage Across NJ. Monday, July 25, 2016 - Saturday, July 30, 2016. Walk with Bishop Beckwith across the diocese from the Delaware River to the Hudson River the week of July 25-30. This is an opportunity to be part of a prayerful pilgrimage in which we look for how we can join God in shaping the future of our diocese. You can participate for an hour of worship, a day of walking, a meal, or the whole pilgrimage. On Thursday, July 28 Mother Vicki will be walking the section from Mendham to Summit. Please consider joining the Journey for the day! For more info please see the diocesan website: http://www.dioceseofnewark.org/event/joining-jesus-journey.

Parish Baseball Outing - several people have asked about an All Saints’@ the Patriots Game again this summer. The answer is “Yes”, we are in the process of picking a date and will get the information out ASAP!

STEWARDSHIP
All Saints’ Cook Book – Recipes due May 29! Our parish has many wonderful cooks, and we’d like to share your recipes. We are looking for all types of recipes, and we particularly need the following categories: Breads/rolls; Kid's Corner - for kids to provide their favorite recipes and/or for parents to provide recipes that their kids enjoy. Feel free to include a story or memory you associate with your recipe and whether your recipe is dedicated in memory of someone. Send your recipes via e-mail to the person from the committee who e-mailed you with the details; or you may hand your hard copy to Carol Berry at church or mail it to her: 14 Coppergate Drive, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. If all else failes, send it to the church e-mail: allstsmill@hotmail.com. Thanks!

The Rummage Sale is coming – Sept. 17! We’ll start collecting on Sunday, July 31. In the meantime, start setting aside your good, clean, rummage-able items. Please remember that we do not take cribs, tires, books for grown-ups, or tube TVs. The sign–up sheets for rummage workers are in the Narthex. Take a look and see how you can help! Questions? Speak to Kimberly Celeste.

Ribs, London Broil and Chicken and baked beans provided…you are invited to come and bring a side dish.  We are also blessed that some of our friends from the Christian Community are coming alongside us in this work. Thanks be to God! We’ve gotten our gas grill working. Now we need a propane tank. If you have one to donate, please speak to Candy Pecoraro or Steve Kowalik. If you would like to help out by bringing a side dish, please let Jane Hayden know.

Going Local Conversation on June 12 – Our work with the Vets from Lyons has been part of an experiment in connecting with our community neighbors that the Guiding Team of our Going Local journey has been trying out. The team is working with coaches from the diocesan Going Local effort – Kathy Seabrook and Joanne O’Neill. They will join us at coffee hour on June 12 to help us reflect on our efforts so far. If you have been part of any of the dinners, or are interested in learning more about what we are doing, please join us for the conversation!

A Prayer for Memorial Day
Almighty God, we remember those who have laid down their lives in the armed services of our country. We thank you for those who have sacrificed their lives in the cause of freedom and justice. We pray for military families who have mourned their father and mothers, daughters and sons. We pray for those who have returned home from war wounded in mind, body, and spirit, that they may know your grace. We pray for real peace in this world, that governments be based upon justice, the common good, and respect for the rights of all. We pray that charity replace hatred, that wisdom replace greed, and that forbearance replace aggression. Amen.
