Today (9/19 ) is Day 221!  The readings for today are Isaiah 16-18, Psalm 31, 2 Thessalonians 3.  If you’d like to jump in with either group, you are most welcome to do so.  You may also follow this program on your own; there is an accompanying guide book available from Mother Vicki. No previous experience with Bible study needed. And of course, in this year we are committing ourselves to the more attentive hearing of Scripture when it is read in Church…a challenge for all of us!

Women’s Book Group meets on Wednesday, October 16th at 7:30 pm in the Rath House. We will be discussing The Unfinished Child, by Theresa Shea. Hope to see you then; happy reading!

WORSHIP

All God’s Children, our monthly service for special needs kids and their families, meets the third Sunday of each month; next service is October 20 at 12 noon. We welcome the community to this non-denominational Christian service designed to engage children with Autism, ADHD, ADD, Down syndrome or any other developmental, emotional or physical challenges.  Please extend an invitation to those who might be interested; all are welcome!  Contact Mother Vicki with questions.

We aim to raise over $2000 this year; please help it be a success again this year.  There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex to help out – we need set-up, servers, dessert bakers, adult “runners”, clean up, etc.  Eat in or take out.  Tickets in advance are $18 for adults, $9 for kids. Hold the date and be sure to invite your friends and neighbors!

COMMUNITY HOSPITALITY
Call for Artists: All Saints’ Community Art Show – We welcome parish artists and their friends – adults and children – to exhibit at our second annual show on October 20th. Each artist may contribute 2 or 3 pieces in whatever medium they choose; all artwork must be ready for hanging or presentation.  There will be a nominal entry fee.  Please let Nancy Mink know if you are interested in participating: mink88@verizon.net

HELPING HANDS
We are looking for a new Clerk for the Vestry.  The job entails taking the minutes at monthly Vestry meetings (3rd Tuesdays of the month) and the Annual Meeting, then e-mailing to the Vestry. This is an important role.  If you are interested, please speak to Tom Day or Mother Vicki.

The Flower Ministry takes the Sunday altar flowers and delivers them to parishioners and others who are ill, home bound or in need of prayer and support – or sometimes just to say “thank you”! We need another person or couple to join this ministy; it is a once a month commitment.  Interested?
Speak to Marcie Teele, Liz Gorny or Mother Vicki.

Food for Friends is the food pantry at St. John’, Dover.  All Saints’ is the primary support for this pantry.  In addition to parishioner contributions, we also pass along donations from Whole Foods Market. Thank you for your participation in this ministry. Please remember to pick up some non-perishables for the food barrel when you shop.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
The last thing we are waiting for at the Parish House is the railings for the front step and the walkway and ramp.  Once we are in the new space we will then need to sort out and rearrange some of our storage areas and room set-ups, but that’s an ongoing project, along with landscaping and painting the exterior of the existing building. The asphalt for the parking lot is scheduled to be poured and rolled on the 25-27th. Until then, parking will still be disrupted.  Please be careful, and thank you for your patience!

“To Americans, usually tragedy is wanting something very badly and not getting it.  Many people have had to learn in their private lives, and nations have had to learn in their historical experience, that perhaps the worst form of tragedy is wanting something badly, getting it, and finding it empty.” ~ Henry Kissinger

Dear Friends in Christ,
Welcome Sunday is this Sunday – the kick-off for our program year! Choirs, Sunday School, mid-week services all begin this week.  And the best part is – we start with a party, our annual Hot Dog Picnic!  There is more information below; please take a look. This is always a time when we welcome visitors and newcomers to All Saints’, and have the opportunity to greet fellow parishioners after summer travels.

One note of concern and request for assistance: This past week Frank McGrath was in a bicycle accident in New York – a hit-and-run while he commuting to Penn Station.  His leg was broken in three places and required surgery.  While he will be fine eventually, he has a lot of healing to do and will have to stay off his leg for six weeks.  Please keep Frank and Bonnie in your
prayers
.  Frank has often been our Hot Dog Sunday griller, so we need two or three people to step up and
take over for this Sunday’s picnic
.  If you can do this, please e-mail or call me by Friday: 973-886-4119.  Thanks!

Work on the parking lot is continuing, and will for several weeks. Please be careful as you walk in the parking lot.  The ground is quite rough, and parking will continue to be tight.  Thank you for your patience over the next few weeks.

We will be discussing The Beautiful Mystery, by Louise Penney. “An entire mystery novel centering on Gregorian chants (whose curiously hypnotic allure is called the “beautiful mystery”)? Yes, indeed, and in the hands of the masterful Penny, the topic proves every bit as able to transfix readers as the chants do their listeners.” — Booklist  Hope to see you then; happy reading!

Welcome Sister Monica Clare who will be worshipping at All Saints’, in addition to being a member of the Community of St. John Baptist in Mendham. Sr. Monica Clare will sing in the choir and serve as a Eucharistic Visitor, along with Joyce Kulzer, assisting Mother Vicki in taking Communion to sick and home bound parishioners .Many of you remember when Sr. Eleanor Francis served here as a seminarian; Sr. Monica Clare’s role will be as a member of the congregation.  She’d written a short bio to introduce herself:
I am originally from Georgia, where I was raised as a Southern Baptist. I
graduated from NYU with a degree in acting and moved to Los Angeles in 1989,
then got a job in movie advertising in 1991 to pay the bills. Twenty-two years
later, I was still working in advertising as a photo editor but I had given up
acting in the mid-nineties and started to pursue my true heart's desire since I
was a child - becoming a nun. I joined All Saints Episcopal Church in Beverly
Hills in 1999 and was confirmed as an Episcopalian in 2000, then started
visiting religious orders around the U.S. I became an Associate of the Sisters
of the Holy Nativity and visited their Retreat House in Santa Barbara twice a
year for many years, and I worked at All Saints Beverly Hills as a LEM,
Eucharistic Visitor, Acolyte, prayer team member, Alpha table leader and
discernment group leader. In 2010 I moved my membership to a smaller parish -
St. Alban's Westwood - and served as a LEM, Acolyte and choir member there. In
2009 I made my application to be a Sister at the Community of St. John Baptist
in Mendham and I spent the next couple of years getting out of debt so that I
could try my Vocation. I have been at CSJB since July 2012 and I was received as
a Novice on April 9, 2013.
We’re glad you are here Sr. Monica Clare!

The front step and wheelchair ramp should be poured this coming week. We are nearing completion of the Belgium block curbing. Then the parking lot will be graded.  Once that is finished the paving can be done, taking about two days. Parking will continue to be tight or scarce. Please carpool or park off-site and walk. We can’t wait to have a new parking lot to compliment the new addition!

A prayer for the start of the school year:
Lord God,
At the beginning of this new school year
teach us to be
your hands and feet where we are,
At the beginning of this new school year
teach us to love
as you love us
At the beginning of this new school year
teach us to pray
for those in need
So that You are honoured and glorified. Amen
