Dear Friends in Christ,
Thank you for a good Annual Meeting.   There was certainly a lot of good energy in the room when Beth led the Asset-Based listening exercise on “What do you care about most.”  Everyone had something to say!  If you didn’t get to the meeting, you can still pick up a copy of the Annual Report in the Narthex.  Also, I’ll be sending out the Rector’s Report and the Wardens’ Report in another e-mail.  I hope you will read them both, not only to get a review of what we have done in this past year, but also to get a clearer sense of where we are going.
And now for the announcements…
This Sunday at 10 am the service will be Morning Prayer (Eucharist at 8 am).  Come and sing some of the wonderful old Anglican chant canticles of our tradition. Sunday School classes will run about 15minutes longer this week, before the kids come into church for worship. Next week’s 10 am service will be a Family Service, with more involvement for children than usual.

Inquirer’s Class for Adults starts this Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 pm in the Rath House., and continue on 2/8, 2/29 and 3/7. Whether you are new to All Saints’ or the Episcopal Church, or are a long-timer and want a refresher, you are welcome to come and learn what our Church stands for, how it expresses Christian faith, its history and organization.  If you are interested in being confirmed or formally received into the Church from another Christian tradition this is the class for you!  Please sign up on the sheet in the Narthex or e-mail or speak to one of the clergy if you would like to know more.

At our Annual Meeting last week we elected a Warden, three Vestry members, one Diocesan Convention deputy and one alternate.  Our Vestry, officers and representatives are as follows: Wardens-Tom Day and Jackie Sullivan; Vestry-Kimberley Celeste, Janet Gibbs, Tom Hackett, Roger Kosempel, Joyce Kulzer, Betty Mather, Roger Mederos and Nancy Mink; Convention deputies-Joe Hall, Leroy May, Janet Gibbs; Convention alternates-Helen Mederos, Louis Berry.  Thank you to Carol Berry and Mary Pizza for their Vestry service.

The repair/rebuilding of the Parish House lower level is moving along.  The dry wall is done, including the new boxed in area in the kitchen for the water heater. The contractors Scoot and Zach will be here every day next week, and then the bathroom floor will be laid, and the new doors will be hung.  Painting can then begin.  The next step will be the kitchen installation. The work has gone very well, and our construction crew has been great to work with.  All of the restoration has been paid for by our insurance company – thank you, Church Insurance!

Pick up your 2012 Pledge Envelopes and Kid’s Offering Envelopes
 that are on the table in the Narthex.  We will not be mailing these due to the high cost of postage, so please be sure to pick them up.

“Souper Bowl Sunday” February 5!  Our Rite-13 class will be collecting canned goods and cash donations for the Food for Friends pantry at both services on this day, as part of a national effort for teens to make a difference for hungry people.  When you go to the store for your chips, dips and snacks for the game, pick up something for the food barrel as well.  Thanks.

Women’s Book Group is reading The Dirty Life by Kristen Kimball, who gave up her city life as a writer to start an organic community farm with her husband.  The group will meet on Wednesday, February 15 at 7:30 pm in the Rath House.  Come for good conversation and fellowship – no gardening or farming experience required!

Epiphany Prayer
Lord Jesus
may your light shine our way,
as once it guided the steps of the magi:
that we too may be led into your presence
and worship you,
the Child of Mary,
the Word of the Father,
the King of nations,
the Saviour of mankind;
to whom be glory for ever.

Dear Friends in Christ,
This coming Sunday is our parish’s Annual Meeting.  It is the time when we elect new members to the Vestry, and hear from our clergy and lay leadership about various aspects of the life and ministry at All Saints’.  The meeting starts at 11:15 (after everyone has gotten some refreshments) in the Parish Hall.  There will be child care available in the Undercroft of the church during the meeting.  Teenagers as well as adults are encouraged to attend the meeting.

This year’s slate of nominees who are standing for election are: Jackie Sullivan – Warden (2 year term); Joyce Kulzer – Vestry (3 year term); Betty Mather – Vestry (second 3 year term); Roger Mederos – Vestry (3 year term); Janet Gibbs – Diocesan Convention Deputy (3 year term); Louis Berry – Diocesan Convention Alternate (3 year term).

Warden Tom Day will be preaching at both the services on Sunday.  Hope we see you there!

A BUNCO Reminder! Friday, January 20! If you have signed up to bring snacks and finger foods, please drop them off to the Parish House by 6 pm on Friday.  If you reserved a spot to play we’ll see you there!

Youth Confirmation Class – on Sunday in the 10 am service the members of the class will formally be commissioned as beginning this process.  Please support and pray for these teens as they go through the next several months.

Calling all Girl Scouts and Cookie Fans – Girl Scouts from All Saints’ will once again be taking orders for cookie sales this Sunday after Church and during the Annual Meeting.  Girls who would like to participate should bring their order forms and wear their uniform vests or sashes.  Sue Dudzinski will be helping the kids to organize this.  Cookie sales are the way Girl Scouts raise funds for many of their programs and camping facilities.  Please support them – and get a sweet deal for yourself!

Adult Inquirer’s Class – will begin on Wed. February 1 at 7:30 pm in the Rath House.  Subsequent classes will meet on 2/8, 2/29 and 3/7.  This class is for anyone (new or old at All Saints’) who wants to know more about the Episcopal Church – what it stands for, how it expresses Christian faith, its history and organization. At the end of this class you may choose to be confirmed or formally received into the Episcopal Church (from another denomination) by the Bishop.  Either way, this will be a fun and informative class.  Please sign up on the sheet in the Narthex.  Questions? Please speak to one of the clergy if you would like to know more.

A Big Thank You – the Regional Grocery Team of Whole Foods has made a contribution of seven cartons of non-perishable foods to All Saints’ for the Food for Friends pantry in Dover.  This donation was arranged by our Rath House apartment tenant Laura Neff.  Thank you, Laura and Whole Foods!

Save the date for Souper Bowl Sunday – on February 5 the Rite-13 Class will please collecting canned goods and cash donations to give to the Food for Friends pantry as they participate in this nation-wide youth program which seeks to help hungry people.  So when you go to the store to buy your chips, dips, and snacks for the game get something nutritious for the “soup pot” and deliver it to Church at either the 8 am or 10 am service.

Do you like to sing? Do your children like to sing?  You are invited to join our Choir, and your kids can try out Junior Choir.  You don’t have to read music, but you do need a sense of humor and a desire to praise God through song.  Adult Choir rehearses Thursdays from 7:30-9:30 pm; Junior Choir is Thursdays from 5-6:15 pm.  For more information speak to Dr. Jody or e-mail drjodydoktor@gmail.com.

Bible Study group meets Wednesdays at 10:15 am (after the 9:30 service) in the Narthex. We’re finishing up a study of Matthew’s Gospel. Come join the discussion!

Women’s Book Group – our next book is The Dirty Life: A Memoir of Farming, Food and Love by Kristin Kimball. A thirty-something Manhattan writer chronicles her first year as a farmer near Lake Champlain. (see her website: www.kristinkimball.com).  The group meets in the Rath House on Wednesday, February 15 at 7:30 pm. Bring yourself or bring a friend for a fun evening – even if you haven’t read the book!

Let’s get something brewing!Conversation and community are an important part of fellowship; coffee (and tea) fosters this! Coffee Hour Hosts are needed for 2012.  Please help out with this ministry by signing up on the Coffee Hour sign-up sheet in the Narthex.

Pick up your 2012 Pledge Envelopes and Kid’s Offering Envelopesthat are on the table in the Narthex.  We will not be mailing these due to the high cost of postage, so please be sure to pick them up.

Stewardship is all that you do with all that you have all of the time.

You can dedicate the Altar Flowers in memory of loved ones who have died, or in thanksgiving for events or milestones by signing up on the Flower Chart posted on the Narthex door.  Several people can sign up for the same date, the dates are not exclusive. Altar flowers are a wonderful way offer praise to God during the Sunday service, and bring beauty to the sick or homebound after the service.  The cost is $48, please note Altar Flowers on the memo line of checks. Questions? Speak to Janet Mansfield.

Diocesan Convention is January 27-28 -- Our parish deputies and clergy will worship, hear reports and the Bishop’s address, attend workshops and make decisions for the life of the diocese, which includes all 107 Episcopal parishes in Northern New Jersey. Please keep them in your prayers.

I turn now to face You,
I lift up my eyes.
Be blessing my face, Lord;
be blessing my eyes.
May all my eye looks on
be blessed and bright,
my neighbors, my loved ones
be blessed in your sight.
You have given us life
And we welcome your coming.
Be with us, Lord,
We have joy, we have joy.
This year is a new year,
The opening door.
Be with us, Lord,
we have joy, we have joy.                   ~ A traditional ‘first-footing’ prayer for New Year’s, as found in Celtic Daily Prayer

This Week @ All Saints’
January 5, 2012

Dear Friends in Christ,
Tomorrow brings the end of the Christmas season on the Feast of the Epiphany – the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles. That means Sunday is our annual commemoration of the Baptism of our Lord.  We’ll renew our baptismal vows at both services, always a good thing to do at the start of a new year.  I hope and pray that you had a happy and peaceful Christmas and that the 2012 will be a time of blessing, and growth in faith, trust, fellowship, and an appreciation of the gift you are.

Epiphany Service, January 6, 5:30 pm, tomorrow –  Three Kings, candlelight, Communion – supper and  piñata at 6 pm.  Hope to see you all there!

Coffee Hour Hosts are needed for this Sunday; if you can host this week please respond to this e-mail. Please, lend a hand with this ministry; you can sign-up on the sheet in the Narthex. If you want to know more about it, speak to John McGrath.

The Bible Study group meets Wednesdays from 10:15-11:30 am in the Narthex.  What do we do in Bible study?  We read together, ask questions, laugh a lot, disagree, learn some new things, share our opinions and experiences, and remain open to what God wants to teach us and how we might grow in faith and life.  No prior Bible study experience or knowledge is needed! We are currently finishing up a study of the Gospel of Matthew and then the group will decide which book to tackle next.  We’d love to have you on board. Questions?  Speak to Joyce Kulzer or Mother Vicki.

Curious about the Episcopal Church – what it stands for, how it expresses Christian faith, its history and organization?  Interested in being confirmed or formally received into the Church from another Christian tradition?  Been a member of All Saints’ for a long time and want to refresh what you know about your faith?  You are invited to be part of the Inquirer’s Class for adults that will be starting in February.  Please speak to one of the clergy if you would like to know more.

All Saints’on Facebook – check out our Facebook page; we’ve posted the photos from Beth’s ordination there. Thanks, Roger Mederos for your wonderful pictures! Even if you don’t have a FB account you can get to our page from our parish website: www.allsaintsmillington.org.

Community of St. John Baptist Epiphany Party – the Sisters of CSJB invite all of you to their annual Epiphany party at the Convent in Mendham on Sunday, January 8 at 7:30 pm.  Bring a dessert to share and your singing voice (and listening ears) for fun, fellowship and carol singing!

Children’s Offering Envelopes for 2012 are available to be picked up in the Narthex on Sunday.  There are also envelopes for adults still waiting to be picked up. If you requested envelopes and do not see them there, please call the office and we can supply you with them.

Annual Parish Meeting will be Sunday, January 22 after the 10 am service in the Parish House.  Plan to be a part of this important event in your parish. Babysitting will be available.

Food for Friends - As a Morris County church, All Saints’ sends food to Food for Friends, the emergency food pantry at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Dover.  Food for Friends serves those in need regardless of religious affiliation.  Our donations are the main source of food for this organization.  Please remember to bring a can or two to every service; it greatly helps to those in need.

And save the date – February 5 – for the “Souper Bowl”, sponsored by the Rite-13 class.  More info to come….

Remember to bring in your printer & copier toner and inkjet cartridges! In 2011, we earned $220 in credit at Staples. (Last year we earned $432!) Staples will pay up to $480/year. Your contributions help reduce our office supply budget. Please remember to bring them in and drop them off in the Narthex. Thanks, Susie Harris.

We often say that stewardship has three parts: time, talent and treasure. But often all we focus on is treasure, and maybe time.  So what about talent?  Here are three questions to consider:
1) What are your talents and strengths?
2) What do you love to do?
3) If time and money were no object, what would you do for God?
+ + + + + + + + +
A New Year’s Prayer
May God make your year a happy one!
Not by shielding you from all sorrows and pain,
But by strengthening you to bear it, as it comes;
Not by making your path easy,
But by making you sturdy to travel any path;
Not by taking hardships from you,
But by taking fear from your heart;
Not by granting you unbroken sunshine,
But by keeping your face bright, even in the shadows;
Not by making your life always pleasant,
But by showing you when people and their causes need you most,
     and by making you anxious to be there to help.
God’s love, peace, hope and joy to you for the year ahead.
